These are a couple of things I worked on a while ago, but haven’t shared yet. First up is this patchwork travel neck pillow. I got together with some friends in December to make this cute little pillow.
Cutting and sewing up the 3″ x 3″ squares took some time, so we didn’t actually finish that day. A few weeks later I finally finished the front and sewed it to the back. Then I stuffed it and let it sit around a while before finally hand sewing it closed. I was a little nervous about that part.
I can certainly use more practice on the hand sewing part, but this was a fun little project!
Then, at the end of January, a bunch of us took a class to make a block for the Swoon quilt! I love this quilt! I can’t wait to make it, but I still haven’t decided what fabric I want to use. I just took two fat quarters that I had to the class so I could learn how to make the block.
The class was great! I learned how to cut the pieces (a different way from how the pattern shows), and I also learned how to use Thangles and a Flying Geese ruler to make some of the pieces a bit easier. I need to be a little better on laying pieces out before sewing them up. I would have liked the star in the middle to be slightly different, but I had already sewed the first strip together before realizing how I should have placed everything.
As Charlie has demonstrated, this is a huge block! I only need 9 to make up the quilt, which means I only need to find 18 fat quarters that I want to use. I’m thinking I want to use gray instead of white for the background, so we’ll see what I can find :)
